ABOUT ME

I am from a small suburb of Chicago, Illinois. I graduated from the University of San Diego with a Bachelor's Degree in history. Afterward, I received my Master's Degree and teaching credential at the University of San Diego. For the past 7 years, I've had the pleasure of teaching history, government, and economics. I have also had the chance to travel to over 33 countries in my life and use those experiences to help teach my students. I am a family oriented person and am very close to both my parents and three older sisters. I have lived a very active lifestyle and enjoy traveling, exercising, and playing rugby.

WHY TEACHING?

I decided I wanted to teach children because I had great experiences as a student with my teachers growing up. While many kids were watching Saturday morning cartoons, I was watching the History and American Heroes Channel when I was young. I grew up watching some of history's greatest generations and leaders change the world. It is my hope that through my teaching I will be the one who can say I helped teach those leaders and world-changers.

History is written by our actions today, as a teacher I will help my students be the authors.

WHY SOCIAL STUDIES?

My passion is history. People often have asked me, "What is your favorite part of history?" My response, "Everything." I have studied everything from the Neolithic Era to modern-day events. There isn't any part of history, geography, or government I do not enjoy. I believe Social Studies is an integral part of a child's learning and understanding of the world. I will engage my students and make people come to love history as much as I do. Social Studies, whether it's geography, U.S. history, or government, have universal applications in today's world. I may teach a student who becomes a lawyer, but they will have acquired those skills to read and interpret documents from my class. Students may be involved in politics, of which they'll have to be able to recall past foreign policies to understand modern-day issues. Students may never need to know who Alexander the Great conquered, but they will use the tools from my classes to be successful in whatever endeavor they may undertake.
